Profile

One of the two signature skyscrapers of the Melbourne CBD's east end, the other being 120 Collins. Upon completion in 1991, it surpassed the Rialto to become the tallest building in the city, only to itself be surpassed almost immediately by 120 Collins that same year. As of 2020, it is the 5th tallest in the city. Designed by Denton Corker Marshall, the building's postmodernist design is evocative of the Empire State Building in New York City (as is that of 120 Collins). The building is broadly considered to be the city's most prestigious commercial address. Its owners are known for purchasing neighbouring properties in order to prevent the development of surrounding high-rise, in order to preserve the views from upper floors.
